Emancipation Day Annual Groundings Workshop & Community Consultation

  • Black Cultural Archives London SW2 1EF United Kingdom (map)

About this event

Decolonising the Archive is hosting a transformative and enlightening experience to commemorate Emancipation Day with their Annual Groundings Masterclass.

Emancipation Day, also recognised as the first of Mosiah, marks the decree of freedom for enslaved Africans in the British Caribbean in 1834. Although freedom was officially granted on this day, it was not immediately realised. The legacy of these systems have perpetuated economic disadvantages for the African Diaspora community.

In this thought-provoking workshop, we explore the historical significance of Emancipation Day and delve into its modern-day implications. We will also reflect on the progress made by African Heritage communities, the Reparations Movement, and the repair that is still required to address the lasting repercussions of enslavement.
