Black Cultural Archives’ Youth Programme brings together 16-25-year-olds of African and Caribbean heritage, offering a space to develop skills for careers in the arts and heritage sector. Based at our home in Windrush Square, the group meets fortnightly, with members able to participate until their 26th birthday. At that point, they can join our alumni scheme or choose to move on.

During meetings, members engage with inspiring speakers and visit cultural organisations. Past speakers include personal branding expert Brian Kofi Hollingsworth and historian-activist Stella Dadzie. Trips have included visits to the theatre, the June Givanni Film Archive, and the rukus! exhibition at Somerset House.

Each year the Youth Programme undertakes two 6-month research projects, culminating in events hosted at Black Cultural Archives for young audiences. In 2025, our projects have explored the history of Brixton’s Black LGBTQ+ community and the evolution of Brixton’s community spaces.
