About this event
Join us for a talk with award-winning author Gary Younge as he discusses his new book Dispatches from the Diaspora with Linton Kwesi Johnson
Award-winning author, broadcaster, academic and former editor-at-large at the Guardian, Gary Younge, will be joined by internationally-published poet and activist Linton Kwesi Johnson to discuss his recently published 6th book, Dispatches from the Diaspora: From Nelson Mandela to Black Lives Matter.
The book is an extraordinary, career-spanning collection from one of the most important voices in the UK. It ranges through civil rights, international politics and personal experience to provide a thematically diverse yet interconnected portrait of the last thirty years. Whether it be his meditations on civil rights or his reflections on his travels around the world, his determination to address silences and interrogate received narratives are hallmarks of his superb work.
'An outstanding chronicler of the African diaspora.' Bernardine Evaristo
Gary is currently a professor of sociology at the University of Manchester and an editorial member of Nation Magazine. His writing has appeared in Granta, New York Times, GQ, New Statesman and beyond. Plus, he has made several radio and television documentaries on topics ranging from gay marriage to Brexit.
