Young Historians Project presents a screening of 'Documenting the East London Black Women's Organisation The Early Years'

Join us for a screening of 'Documenting the East London Black Women's Organisation: The Early Years' a film the by Young Historians Project

The East London Black Women's Organisation (ELBWO) was founded in 1979, after the first National Black Women's Conference was convened. Throughout its early years, ELBWO was a pioneering force in Black community and anti-racist circles, and was connected with the women's movement.

The women of ELBWO fought for better education for Black children, empowered Black youth through dedicated Saturday schools and education programmes, and gave many local women a voice in community matters. This documentary is the first to trace the story of ELBWO.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A, and the evening will feature a display of archive material related to ELBWO and the Black Women's Movement from BCA's collections.
